George Parris

George Parris is a British singer and conductor. He is the Founder and Artistic Director of UK vocal ensemble The Carice Singers, with whom he has made four recordings for the Naxos label and the BBC Music Magazine. In Finland he performs with the Sibelius Academy Vocal Ensemble, Somnium Ensemble, Hämäläis Osakunta Laulajat, and the Choir of Olaus Petri Church in Töölö.

George began performing early music while a student at the University of Cambridge and became fascinated with the choral music of sixteenth-century Northern European composers, especially Thomas Tallis, John Sheppard, Nicholas Ludford, Jean L’Héritier, and Pierre de Manchicourt. He wrote his Bachelor’s dissertation on the secular motets of Jacquet of Mantua (1483–1559), and continued studies in musicology and ensemble singing at the University of Oxford.
